It sadly seems to be true. It is rare not to be at war - the most intelligent of all species and that's the best we can do. A somber and sobering observation. The phot is stunning - the light! Wow.
Autumn does evoke the sombre thought such as those about war(s) and I increasingly wonder how we ever thought that there would never be another war in Europe, that the Bosnian/Serbian/ Kosovan + wars were just an aftershock of the very last European war. You articulate these sentiments so well Ain...
I wonder why, but looking back i think there have been war always... it is what we know to do, so maybe we need to look for those small changes to appreciate the seasons.
What a sad place to be at this time of year, Ain. I can understand it when you write that ’no number of bright autumn trees can ever change it; that the world will always be at war’. But there are always smiles – and they’re catching.

I am just an old hippie Ain. I gotta believe humans can someday evolve, though… 🤷🏻
I really used to be the same, word for word, but I just think war is in the genes of too many...thanks Rob....
Very well written, Ain.
Sadly I believe you are right. War will always be our shadow it seems!
Yes, I have come to believe it is, like it or not...thanks Dwight...
Here's to sitting by a fire with someone who makes you smile, and dream of the possibility of no war.
That's exactly it Jane! Thanks..
It's the paradox of our species that, while we've always engaged in war, we long and hope for peace. A heartfelt reminiscence, to be sure, Ain!

You make a good point here. Love the haiku.
Very wise, Ain.
